BURN RESTRICTIONS IN EFFECT



As of October 15, 2025, the turn ban has been lifted throughout Hood River County. Burning is allowed daylight till dark with a valid permit.


If you already have a permit, you do not need to obtain another one as they are good indefinitely. If you need a permit or lost yours, you can obtain one by stopping by the fire station Monday-Friday or call (541)352-6092.


Agricultural fire blight is permitted with a valid permit and permission to burn agricultural piles from the Fire Chief. Please call (541)352-6092 prior to burning.



RULES & REGULATIONS





A valid burn permit grants permission to dispose of trash and yard debris clean-up materials by burning under provision of ORS 477.515 and 478.963.

OPEN FIRES shall be limited in size and shall conform to the following:

  • No fires shall be kindled within fifty (50) feet of any property line public right of way, building, fence, or combustible growth. Adequate provision shall be made to prevent fire from spreading. Garden hose with adequate water supply and shovel shall be available near the burn site.
  • Burning of uncut standing grass, brush or vegetation is prohibited. Call and request a special burning permit and a fire inspector will review the burning site and burn plan.
  • Burning after dusk or before dawn is PROHIBITED.
  • Open fires shall be constantly attended by a competent person.
  • The burning of prohibited material such as rubber, plastic, etc. including household garbage or any material which can pollute the air or damage the property of others, is prohibited and subject to fine.
  • Burning is prohibited at all times when a general fire permit ban is in effect.
  • BURN BARRELS (when allowed) shall be located in a 10 foot clear area, 25 feet from buildings or other combustibles. Provide a screen with 1/4 inch openings over top of barrel. Burn barrels must be in good condition and used for burning of dry paper waste or wood products only.
  • WINDY CONDITIONS. Do not burn during windy conditions that will cause fire to spread.
  • SMOKE POLLUTION. Be aware of smoke conditions that may impose undue hardship to neighbors. Do not allow fire to smolder. Turn ashes occasionally. Complaints may cause termination of permit.
